Who we are

The Mirage of Ancient Egypt is a student-curated exhibit at George Mason University’s Fenwick Gallery.

The students of ARTH 495: Curating an Exhibit, instructed by Dr. Jacquelyn Williamson, were tasked with creating an exhibit that examines the legacy of ancient Egypt in popular culture. Over the course of four months, this class has developed, designed and built a museum exhibition through the study of texts and objects to unravel the misconceptions of ancient Egypt in films, books, souvenirs and many other forms of material culture and media.

Thank you to Dr. Jacquelyn Williamson, who guided us throughout this class, and to Katie Nitz, our student Chief Curator.

A special thank you to the History and Art History department and Mason Impact for their generous awards and for allowing our class to bring The Mirage of Ancient Egypt to life.
